The video art CARMEN (2020) tells in images the story of my great-grandmother who migrated from Spain to Brazil during the Spanish flu pandamia. Carmen was 4 months old and showed symptoms on the ship. They ordered her body to be thrown overboard, but her mother hid with her in the cellar during the entire journey. Upon arriving at the port of Santos, Carmen was registered under another name, as if she had been born during the voyage.
